Tammy Cashman, Transparent
Tammy Cashman (Melora Hardin)
On comedy series Transparent, Tammy was introduced in the pilot episode as the old college girlfriend of Sarah, the oldest of the Pfefferman children whose father coming out as a transwoman is the main focus of the series.
Tammy, who had a wife, Barb, and a daughter, Grace, reconnected wit Sarah, who was also married with children, over the course of the pilot, and by the end of the episode their old feeling resurfaced and they ended up kissing. In episode 2 they had sex in the back seat of a car before Sarah confessed her love to Tammy.
They continue their affair over the next few episodes, although Tammy seemed uncertain how she felt and eventually started avoiding Sarah’s calls when she wanted to tell their spouses about the affair. By episode 4 Sarah had enough of Tammy avoiding her and confronted her about it. Tammy admitted she did love her, and they both left their respective partners to be together. The relationship then continued to grow over the course of the season.
In the fifth episode Tammy and Sarah had moved in together, and they also had a house-guest, Tammy’s step-daughter from her first marriage, Bianca. Later in the season Bianca’s stay and with Sarah bringing in medical marijuana into the house caused some friction between the couple. Tammy mentioned that she was a drug addict, and even though cocaine was the drug she used, anything in the house could be a trigger for her. Sarah then flushed the marijuana and apologized. At the end of the season Sarah proposed to Tammy, who gladly accepted.
Season 2 started with Sarah’s and Tammy’s wedding, but Sarah had a panic attack and the two broke up instead. In the next episode Tammy showed up drunk at the Pfefferman pool-party, and again to the children’s school gala, causing a scene both times.
She also had a brief appearance in episode 7 when Sarah visited her office to try and apologize. Tammy didn’t want to hear her apology and was not seen in the series afterwards.
