Sara Lance, Legends of Tomorrow

Sara Lance (Caity Lotz)

In DC Comics action series Arrow, Sara Lance was a former member of the League of Assassins, vigilante the White Canary, and a member of Team Arrow. In Arrow’s pilot episode, Sara was presumed to be dead when series protagonist Oliver Queen’s boat went down; however, in Season 2 it was revealed that Sara actually survived and had become member of the evil League of Assassins. It was also revealed that during that time she and another member of the League, Nyssa al Ghul, had become lovers.

Arrow, Season 2

In Arrow, season 2, episode 13, Nyssa arrived to bring Sara back to the League, and kissed her as they talked about their romantic past. The majority of the romance between Nyssa and Sara occurred completely off-screen and many fans felt that it was handled in an offensive manner. In the first episode in which Nyssa appeared, Sara was made to “choose” between returning to a life of evil with her killer lesbian ex-girlfriend or to stay as part of Team Arrow alongside the straight, male hero love interest.

Nyssa then kidnapped Sara’s mother in order to compel her to come with her, but Sara was able to get Nyssa to let her mother go and release her from League by poisoning herself and then convincing Oliver not to kill Nyssa, who then left. In the aftermath of the episode’s events, Sara and Oliver kissed passionately and had sex.

Sara and Oliver were in a relationship during the second season from episode 13 to episode 20, when she broke up him because she said he deserved somebody better than a killer like her. In the Season 2 finale, Sara returned to the League with Nyssa, only to appear again in the first episode of Season 3, when she was killed.

Arrow, Season 4

Sara was resurrected in Season 4 by using a Lazarus Pit, but came back at first as a soulless killer who tried to hunt her murderer. Though her soul was eventually returned to her body, Sara suffered from episodes of bloodlust caused by her resurrection, and left the series to retreat to a monastery in Tibet to find way to control them.

Legends of Tomorrow, Season 1

In the pilot episode of Legends of Tomorrow, pilot Rip Hunter found Sara in bar in Tibet and got her to join his team. In episode 8, Sara kissed lesbian nurse Lindsay Carlisle, whom she met when she and rest of the team traveled back in time to 1958, but she appeared in only a single episode.

Throughout the first season, Sara had a flirty relationship with former thief and Rip Hunter team member Leonard Snart, and kissed him before he sacrificed himself for the team at the end of the season.

Legends of Tomorrow, Season 2

In season 2, Sara started the season looking for revenge for the death of her sister, and still tortured by her past while settling into a leadership role. She didn’t have any regular love interests, just a string of 1-episode flings with various historical world leaders, part of each episode’s case-of-the-week.

In the premiere, the team went to France 1637 and Sara slept with Queen Anne of Austria, Louis XIV’s mother. In the same episode she was also close to being burned at the stake in Salem because of her sexual antics with the women of that town: she was accused of “happily” corrupting them.

In episode 2×12, at King Arthur’s court, Sara flirted with Guinevere (who quipped “I enjoyed meeting you, Sara Lance-a-lot”) and, because every good legend had to end with a kiss, went back to kiss her at the end of the episode.

Legends of Tomorrow was renewed for season 3.
