Rose Dryden (Natalie Blair). On historical drama Crossbones, a show centered around the fictionalized life of pirate Edward “Blackbeard” Teach, Rose was a brothel madam on the pirate island that was ruled by Blackbeard. She didn’t have any explicit romantic interests on the show, but her interest in women was implied and used as a plot device.
When Nenna, a pirate in Blackbeard’s crew, stole a jewel from her, Rose confronted her. Nenna explained she did it for love, but then clarified it wasn’t for love of a man. Rose seemed to interpret this to mean that Nenna was in love with woman and after, Rose demanded all of Nenna’s treasures in exchange for not revealing to other pirates that Nenna was stealing from them.
During their interactions, Rose was openly flirtatious towards Nenna in way that implied she was sexually interested in her, though when Rose offered to have sex with her, Nenna refused. In the end, Nenna murdered Rose by slitting her throat and hiding her body, before pinning her murder on another man in order to escape.
The show was cancelled after one season.
