Maddie/Ava/Alice/Saffron/CeCe (Inbar Lavi)
Imposters is a dark comedy that followed con artist Maddie (Inbar Lavi), who got involved in relationships with men and women before leaving them “used and robbed of everything – including their hearts”. (Bravo Press Release)
In the pilot, two of the ex husbands she conned, Ezra and Richard, teamed up to look for her. At the end of episode 2 they found Jules, another victim and Maddie’s ex-wife who agreed to join them and look for Maddie (1×03). Jules was in the same situation, she had known Maddie as “Cece” and was still in therapy after Cece/Maddie conned her two years prior to the show.
Ezra, Richard and Jules, all broke, started running cons themselves in order to raise enough money to look for Maddie. Meanwhile, Maddie, going by Saffron, was working a new mark, but starting to feel restless — going through the motions of seduction without any enthusiasm, and was distracted by Patrick (Stephen Bishop), a tech millionaire she developed a genuine interest in.
Maddie was not working alone, but part of a bigger con operation, run by “The Doctor” who kept track of her and was the one paying her to con people he chose. Her only real romantic interest on the show, not part of a con, was Patrick, until he turned out to be an FBI agent on a mission to entrap her. (Maddie: “I really, really almost fell in love with you.” -1×08)
Ezra, Richard and Jules all got some flashback scenes of their relationships with Maddie, and shared some scenes with her dealing with the past relationships, after they managed to track her down and got involved in her con operations. In 1×08, Jules kissed her, Maddie pulled away and Jules almost left the con, but Ezra persuaded her to stay.
Maddie and Patrick got engaged, and then married in the season finale. Maddie married him partially because of the con against the FBI and partially because she got emotional with Ezra. Maddie shared her past with Ezra and they ended up making out. Show creator Paul Adelstein stated it was both because of the con and because Maddie had feelings for him.
In end Maddie managed to con Patrick and rest of the FBI, and she was last seen watching Ezra, Jules and Richard board a bus to San Francisco as planned, although she did not go with them.
The show has yet to be renewed for a second season.
