In Season 1, Luisa, an OB-GYN, distraught after her wife Allison cheated on her, accidentally inseminated Jane. She feared a lawsuit and contacted her old flame, Rose, an ex-lawyer, and her father’s socialite wife. They continued having an affair, and hooked up again in 1×02 (kiss and fade-to-black) and 1×03.
Luisa, a recovering alcoholic, left on a drinking bender, only returning to the show in 1×08. Luisa confronted Rose, telling her she wanted to be with her, and threatened to tell her father unless Rose came clean first. Rose, in order to avoid that, had her committed to a mental institution. Wanting information from Luisa, Rose visited her in 1×10, bringing powdered donuts, their usual post-sex snack, said she felt terrible, and told her she loved her. They had sex again at the mental institution and Rose got the information she needed post-sex. In 1×12, Rose was revealed as a notorious drug lord going by Sin Rostro, and killed her husband, Emilio. In 1×14, her brother finally got Luisa out of the mental institution and she met with the police to talk about Rose, describing her as “the greatest love story of all time”.
To get some space, Luisa left for an ashram for a while, and she returned to the show in 1×20, with a new girlfriend, ‘Juicy Jordan’, a pro wrestler. Meanwhile Rose/Sin Rostro was MIA until Season 1 finale when she showed up to kidnap Jane’s baby.
In Season 2, Luisa’s new girlfriend broke up with her over Rose, and Luisa was kidnapped in order to send Rose a message. After she escaped, Luisa found new information about her mother’s suicide, which she started to investigate, collaborating with detective Susanna Barnett whom she developed a crush on. In 2×04, she also slept with Heidi Von Ocher, a professional yodeler, although she was still secretly in contact with Rose online.
Susanna and Luisa got closer and begun a fling which Susana ended when Luisa confessed her eternal love for Rose. Luisa then got in a car accident and was visited by Rose in the hospital. The police showed up and although Rose almost escaped, Luisa found her lying dead on the stairwell. Luisa, broken over Rose’s death, started drinking again and in 2×13, after talking to Susana, she went back to rehab. Luisa came back to the show in the Season 2 finale, and she and Susana got back together. At the end of the season, Susana, after shooting her partner Michael, went to Luisa and told her they had to run. When Luisa questioned why, Susana pulled off a face mask and revealed she was Rose, telling Luisa: “Don’t look so surprised, you know ours is the greatest love story ever told.”
In episodes 3×01 and 3×03, Luisa and Rose were together on a submarine, on the run from police. There was a flashbacks to 3 months prior, after they had escaped together, and Rose told Luisa she loved her and wanted to build a life with her, promising to leave her life of crime. Luisa was still angry with Rose for killing her father, and stayed with her but only agreed to a sexual relationship.
Luisa got an email from her brother, and Rose offered to let Luisa go home and tell her brother everything, promising she would never hear from her again. Luisa went home and then back to rehab and did not appear on the show again until 3×10 (aired in February during sweeps).
Episode 3×10 featured a 3 year jump, and Luisa came back with Rose, who got plastic surgery, went by Eileen and was played by Elisabeth Röhm. Luisa and Rose came up with the elaborate plot so that Rose could give up her life of crime and live with Luisa without anyone realizing the truth.
Luisa and Rose (still dressed as Eileen) appeared again in episode 3×16, staying at the Marbella with Rafael and his private detective still on Rose’s trail. In episode 3×19 after Rafael, who had proof Rose had killed Scott, lied to Luisa to get her to come back, they were arrested and Rose’s mask was pulled off.
In the season finale (3×20), Luisa agreed to testify where all of Rose’s victims were buried in exchange for immunity, however, when she found out her brother had lied to her about his cancer, she came up with her father’s will and took over Rafael’s hotel. Rose remained in prison, and told Luisa she hadn’t killed Scott, and that she should have trusted her instead of her brother.
Jane the Virgin was renewed for season 4, to air fall 2017.

Luisa just wanted a relationship with her brother when she needed him most and he just pushed her away, and consequently into Rose’s arms because Rose was the only one who seemed to care about her. She’s just a heartbroken, hopeless romantic that wants to have people to support her
