Kelly Epson (Vanessa Lengies) plays a nurse on the medical drama, and came out as a lesbian in Episode 7, Season 2 to a patient who was struggling with her sexuality.
The patient’s parents then filed a complaint against Kelly for “validating Cassie’s feelings.” When her friend and co-worker questions why she hadn’t told her earlier, she stated, “I didn’t think I had to. We don’t all wear birkenstocks.”. After that episode Kelly’s sexuality didn’t come up again.
