Jessie Sammler, Once and Again
Jessie Sammler (Evan Rachel Wood)
Once and Again was a romantic drama about the joining of two single parent families and the drama of separate households blending. Jessie Sammler was the middle daughter of the leads and a student at Upton Sinclair High School. For 3 seasons she battled anorexia, anxiety over her parents’ divorce, and the discovery of her own sexuality.
In the 3rd and final season, Jessie discovered that she was falling for her best friend, Katie Singer. After finding out Katie had previously been in a relationship with a girl, Jessie initially distanced herself from her new friend. In the notable episode “The Gay-Straight Alliance” (3×14) the two confessed their feelings for each other and started pursuing a relationship. The series ended with Jessie on a peaceful plateau, in a budding relationship with Katie and, for the first time in three years, happy. The series was canceled soon after.
