Jess Geller, Mary Kills People
Jess Geller (Abigail Winter)
The series is set around the life of Dr. Mary Harris (Caroline Dhavernas), an overworked single mother and ER doctor who also moonlights as an underground angel of death – working outside the law assisting patients who want to die on their own terms. Jess is Mary’s lesbian daughter, who has crush on her straight best friend Naomi (Katie Douglas).
Naomi has a boyfriend, is aware of Jess’ feelings and uses them to take advantage of her, and talk her into things. Because of this, Naomi is usually the one to initiate kissing/making out. Naomi is also the daughter of Jess’s father’s current girlfriend and gets involved with drugs, including taking some of Mary’s euthanasia drugs she finds in a shed, and then blackmailing Mary into hiding the truth when she ends up in the hospital.
By the end of the season, Naomi tells Jess they were only experimenting, and Jess comes out to her mother when she tells her she’s in love with Naomi. Jess and Naomi have a minor role on the series and their screen times is quite limited. The show has not yet been renewed for season 2.
