Imogen Moreno, Degrassi: The Next Generation
Imogen Moreno (Cristine Prosperi)
In the Canadian high school drama Degrassi: The Next Generation, Imogen Moreno was a graduate of Degrassi Community School who was introduced in Season 11. Over the course of the season, Imogen tried to get close to a male character, Eli, whom she had a crush on. Eli suffered from bipolar disorder and Imogen tried to help him stay off meds and get over his on again off again girlfriend.
After Eli rejected her a final time, Imogen set out to befriend Fiona and the two got close. Fiona, who had a crush on Imogen, tried to confront her about her feelings for Eli and set the two up on a date. Imogen dated Eli again but the two broke up over his jealousy and manic/violent episodes. In the Season 11 finale, Imogen and Fiona went to a carnival together and ended up kissing. They dated throughout Season 12, but broke up in the finale after graduation, due to Fiona moving to Italy.
In Season 13, Imogen developed a crush on the FTM character Adam Torres, and the two kissed, but soon after Adam got into a car accident and was killed off. Later, in Season 13, episode 25, Imogen met the lesbian character Jack, a free-spirited dancer who quickly gained the affection of the equally free-spirited Imogen. The two grew closer, and in Season 13, episode 35, they kissed and eventually started dating.
The pair were still together at the start of Season 14. By episode 6, Imogen told Jack that she loved her, but Jack wanted to break up instead, explaining that she practiced polyamory and was not behind the idea of “heteronormative monogamy”. By the end of the episode, Jack had changed her mind, called Imogen telling her she loved her and the two went on a date.
Later, they broke up again after Imogen pressured Jack to come out to her parents. They tried to reconcile in the Season 14 finale, but they ended up deciding they weren’t right for each other. Jack was not seen on the show after that.
Imogen’s sexual orientation was undefined on the show. She could have been bi/pansexual, however, several characters referred to her as a lesbian, including her mother and her best friend Becky. In Season 12, Fiona told a friend Imogen was “questioning” but it wasn’t revealed if she came to any conclusion.
