Delle Seyah Kendry, Killjoys
Delle Seyah Kendry (Mayko Nguyen)
Space adventure series Killjoys follows a trio of bounty hunters in a system known as the Quad. Delle was introduced in season 1 as one of the leading members who control most resources and political power in the Quad. She is deeply involved in the politics and is shown to be ruthless and has little moral qualms when it comes to getting what she wants, being one of the main conspirators in the assassination of several other families of the nine.
Delle and Dutch (one of the bounty hunters) are often engaged in a power struggle, sharing a very tense relationship as Delle enjoys shamelessly flirting with Dutch and their scenes often include subtext. In season 2 episode 4, which aired during July sweeps period, Delle and Dutch are trapped in a school where the life support system is failing, causing Delle to struggle with breathing. When Dutch asks how to turn the system back on, Delle kisses her, then tells her to use the biometrics. Dutch uses Delle’s breath, that she still has in her mouth, to turn the system back on.
In the season finale Delle is shot in an attempt to kill her, but the ending is left ambiguous as the camera pans to a smiling Delle leaning against the wall after being shot before cutting away. Showrunner Michelle Lovretta was asked about Delles fate in an interview with The TV Junkies: “I won’t go into specifics but I left a lot of breadcrumbs on the path in Episode 10 that give you signs of Delle Seyah’s fate–chief of them being her smile, but also what seems like a throwaway conversation she has with her guard. If I have my way, Delle Seyah is not finished with us and we are not finished with her. In a lot of ways, she’s just beginning–that’s why we don’t end on a shot of John walking away, we end on her.”
Killjoys has been renewed for a 3rd season.
