Cicely, Northern Exposure

Cicely (Yvonne Suhor)
Cicely was a guest character who appeared in season 3, episode 23 of Northern Exposure. In the episode an elderly man came to the town of Cicely and told lead character Joel about the town’s beginnings. Joel then imagined the events as the man was recounting them.
Cicely and Roslyn, a lesbian couple, were two of the town’s founders, who came into town with visions of a utopian society in which all people were equal and all were valued. They were in love and shown in a committed relationship. After long winter months, Cicely fell ill, and at a town meeting where people were challenging the changes in town, a lone gunner fired a shot at Roslyn.
Cicely noticed him right before he fired and stepped in front of Roslyn. Cicely died in her arms, as Roslyn pleaded with her not to leave her. The entire town forgot their disputes and was renamed Cicely.
After the funeral, Roslyn withdrew into herself and one day left the town altogether, never to be seen again.
