Catherine Meyer, Veep

Catherine Meyer (Sarah Sutherland)
On the political satire comedy series Veep, Catherine is introduced as Selina Meyer’s daughter (the vice-president and later president). In Season 1 she only appears in 1×03, and her role gets more prominent later on, but she’s mainly a background/secondary character.
Season 5
In Season 5, 5×06, Catherine revealed that a string of failed relationships with men and a failed engagement, combined with finally finding the right person, in secret service agent Marjorie, have made her realize that she was in fact a lesbian. The revelation came as a surprise for both Selina and the audience. Catherine and Marjorie then spent the rest of the season as a couple.
Catherine also began filming her mother for her thesis in order to complete film school. Her film then made up the entirety of the 9th episode. Although the film focused on Selina’s run for president, it also featured a subplot about Catherine falling in love with Marjorie. The episode, and season, ended with Catherine and Marjorie living happily together at their animal sanctuary.
The series created a website for Catherine’s film “Kissing Your Sister: The Story of a Tie”, which included some in-jokes and Easter Eggs.
Season 6
Catherine and Marjorie are still together, with Marjorie heading up the Meyer fund, and have short appearances as a background/side plot in each episode. In episode 2 they announce they want to have a baby and they ask regular character Dan to be their sperm donor.
In episode 4, while at the gynecologist with Dan, they started considering a natural method of conception because artificial insemination didn’t “feel organic”.
Dan: “Why don’t we just puppy pile, okay? Then we’ll all get a bite to eat afterwards, you know. See a movie or something. You know, we’ll make it nice.”
Marjorie: “It could be interesting. He does have very delicate features.”
The idea is scraped because Dan has very low odds of being able to conceive. In episode 5 they ask their last resort, regular character Richard, former campaign aide and later Chief of Staff, who agrees.
