Bronwyn Jones, Muscle

Bronwyn Jones (Amy Pietz)
Muscle was a sitcom parody of prime time soap operas of the 1990s. The plot is set in a gym and centers around figuring out the murder of the gym owner. Everyone at the gym become suspects, have dark secrets or play dirty.
Local television news anchor Bronwyn’ Jones secret is that she is a closeted lesbian. She is being blackmailed in order to keep her secret, and is forced to go out with another man, Sam, who has a crush on her. However, tired of being blackmailed she decides to come out while on air in the next episode.
Bronwyn’s coming out prompts the news director to exploit her sexuality by creating various news segments featuring women in subtextual situations and always introducing Bronwyn with exclamations like; “featuring Bronwyn Jones, lesbian!” or “Here’s our lesbian anchor woman, Bronwyn Jones!”. At the end of the series Bronwyn tries to quit the news station in order to avoid exploitation but can’t because of contract issues. The series was cancelled after only 13 episodes, leaving all character storylines unresolved.
