On the first season of crime drama Blindspot, Bethany Mayfair was introduced as the assistant Director In Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office. Most of her past was unknown, but she referenced having once been married to a man and had a dog. During flashback scenes in episode 8, it was shown that Mayfair and a woman named Sophia Varma used to work together and were in a relationship, before their project went sour and Sophia took her own life. It was later revealed that Sophia had actually faked her own death and had gone into hiding; she reappeared in episode 18 to participate in a plot to frame Mayfair for murder.
During the season, Mayfair became romantically involved with a woman named Alexandra Harrison, posing as a salesperson, whom she had met in a bar. When Alexandra was subsequently murdered in order to warn Mayfair off her current investigation, she was then framed for the murder.
Mayfair was shot and killed in the Season 1 finale after a breakthrough in her investigation.
