Abby Sullivan, NYPD Blue
Abby Sullivan (Paige Turco)
On police procedure drama NYPD Blue, Abby Sullivan is introduced in Season 4 as a uniform officer, who meets and becomes friends with main character Greg Medavoy. Greg develops a crush on Abby, and at first it seems like the regular boy meets girl storyline, until Greg asks Abby out, only to learn that she is a lesbian. Abby, her long term girlfriend Kathy and Greg all have dinner afterwards at Abby and Kathy’s home. Abby tells Greg that the reason they invited him for dinner is that they are trying to have a baby and would like for him to be the donor, and Greg agrees.
Abby returns for one episode in Season 5 “Three Girls and a Baby”, in which Kathy is brutally murdered, and a now pregnant Abby is shot in the arm. Prior to Kathy’s murder Abby had told Greg about having “ugly” fights with Kathy, throwing doubts on her innocence. However, it turns out the murder was committed by one of Abby’s jealous, vindictive ex-girlfriends, who felt betrayed by Abby having a baby with another woman. Abby leaves the show as a single mother, with Greg promising he would be there to help.
